Samaria Gorge

Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and has been called Europe’s oldest city, the great palace was built gradually between 1700 and 1400 BC. The palace of Knossos eventually became the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture.
A long standing debate between archaeologists concerns the main function of the palace, whether it acted as an administrative center, a religious center, or both, in a theocratic manner.
